New Shy Cat

We have adopted a new shy cat!! Because I had such a fulfilling experience with Milky Way and his transformation from terrified to comfortable and safe, I looked at other "spirit cats" from hoarding situations at our local shelter.

There was one I really wanted because of how scared she looked, but she was adopted out pretty quickly because she was orange and people love orange cats. There were several cats left and I finally decided on Kettle, who looked terrified in her picture.

She was in foster, so I had to click a link to apply online. I had never done this before, but it was easy. I submitted the paperwork, made an appointment for a phone conversation, and then set up a time to pick up Kettle. :) I had the cat within 24 hours after clicking "adopt."

Kettle (who we will probably re-name Calliope), is very scared in her new home, as expected. She hid underneath a dresser and then the couch. I got a picture of her last night, but I haven't seen her since. I'm not sure where she's hiding, but I'm not going to pry. She has obviously found a place where she feels safe. I was happy to see this morning that she had eaten the food I put out for her and had used the litter box.

I got to speak with the woman who fostered her and she said she'd love to get updates about Kettle. This morning, she sent a message to me wondering if we'd consider adopting her brother, Kava, who stopped eating after Kettle left. :(  I don't know if Kava is a biological brother or not, but I texted my husband about it and he responded "uh-oh." I'm pretty sure that means "yes" but he hasn't said anything after that.

I've never had four cats, but I think perhaps having Kettle and Kava together might be a good idea. If we do get Kava, we may re-name him Calypso to go with Calliope (they are both ships from the British Navy, they are both Greek mythological characters, and they are both musical). Calypso is historically a female name, but I'm not sure a cat will care about that at all.
