Calliope and Everett
We ended up adopting Calliope's brother, Kava, who we have now renamed Everett two days after Calliope. We came up with his name because he was hiding in a very small space in my husband's desk. In the movie, "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" the character Everett is always saying that they're in a tight spot, so there it is. I thought a name keeping a V sound in it would be good, too. I put out a poll for my family, so his name (so far) is Everett Lando Catrissian Monopoly Williams. We'll have to give Calliope a second name. Maybe Leia Organa just to keep with the Star Wars theme.
Anyway, this blog isn't about names. It is about progress of shy cats. Calliope was getting fairly comfortable with us before we brought Everett home. She did come from a hoarding situation, but after a week and seeing her interactions with Everett, I wonder if she'd prefer to be in a one-cat home. Only time will tell. She ate a treat from my fingers and has been doing pretty well. She thought she touched my fingers when she ate a treat and she jumped back very quickly. I think it is going to be very difficult to ever really touch her. There is an issue because the keyring on her collar to hold her tag on is opening up, so she has two metal wires sticking out. I don't want her to get injured, and I don't want to "towel" her and have her freak out forever. I may need to borrow a friend's falconer gloves. Sigh.
Everett is very food motivated. He came out of hiding for the first time about 5 days after adoption. He has eaten out of my hand multiple times. I did accidentally touch his tail this morning and he hissed at me. Oops!
They both love to sit in the windows, so I think I might purchase a new window seat so there are 2 in the big window.
Here is Everett sitting in the recliner:
