We have officially changed Buckbeak's name to Milky Way. For some reason anyone who hadn't read or seen Harry Potter was having great difficulty with the name, calling him all sorts of things like "Buckwheat" and "Bloodbeak." I call him Milky or MilkyMoo most of the time. I tried calling him Buckbeak a couple of weeks ago, but he attacked me - so he stays Milky!
Milky has become much more relaxed around us. Unfortunately, he still can't interact with our other cats without violence. I've brought him out of his room and will hold him so they can all look at each other, but if I let him go, he tries to go after one of them. That plus the fact that the other two cats are scared of him don't give me much hope of a co-habitating future. Then there is the other issue - when we let him out of his room to freely roam around (when the other cats are outside), Milky pees on stuff - like our bed (!!!) and the antique sofa (!!!!!!!!!) which is not acceptable. I understand that he's doing it to mark territory, but peeing on the furniture is not okay. He does not pee on his own couch, though he does pee in various areas in "his" room that are not in the litter box.
I think his fur is looking a lot better than when he first came to us. It is still kind of greasy looking in some places, but overall it looks fluffier. He is still pretty skinny - I can feel each vertebrae when I pet him. He seems to have a healthy appetite, but can be picky about his food. I've learned that he prefers pate over strips or chunks of stuff.
When I go into his room and sit, he is immediately on my lap. He LOVES being petted, but he still flinches sometimes when my hand is in a certain position or place (I can't figure it out what it is exactly). He also loves playing with string. We got him a large scratching post that he uses often and also one of those circle things with a ball in a track. The strange thing is he'll play with that, but then get scared of it and hide.
Now that the windows are open, he'll sit in them, but he gets terrified if we go anywhere near him when he's in the window. This is just before he jumped down and hid under the couch.
