Seven months to the day!

Readers (hahaha - no one reads this!), I think I have figured out Milky Way's aggression issues. Last night I was checking him over for mats in his fur and I noticed something odd. He has balls. Like - testicles!! I thought that I had to be mistaken, so I looked it up online to see how to tell. One of the suggestions was to gently squeeze to feel for a ball. I felt firmness, and he didn't seem to like me touching him there, so I stopped.

Today I checked again, and he definitely has some lumps going on under his butt hole. I felt them again and this time it felt like a ball inside. I also had my husband feel and he said, "Yep - feels like a ball." So, of course I discovered this on a long weekend, so I can't call the vet yet. BUT, I'm so excited that this is the potential issue for both his aggressiveness and his marking behavior. 

How could this happen? Well, I do recall that the shelter had the incorrect picture on its website. Maybe some of the records that I have for Milky Way are really the records for that other cat, named Buckbeak! Who knows? We'll find out, hopefully this coming week!

Another Huge Step!

I never thought I'd be writing this post - even a few weeks ago. On Friday I put together a tall cat tower thing for our living room. I thought that August would like being up high and going into the little houses when he wasn't outside. August immediately climbed all the way to the top to explore, but he's not been up there much since that time. Jabez has completely rejected it and I don't think he's even tried to climb on it at all. Milky Way, on the other hand, LOVES it. He sits on it a lot and loves to scratch the posts. I'm so glad. Because of this, we've also been allowing Milky to be out in the house with Jabez inside. There was only one incident where Milky smacked Jabez. I videoed them and the video clearly shows that Jabez deflected the swat. I put Milky back into his room after that. I think he may have connected attacking Jabez to being put in his room. Post Surgery

Milky Way had his surgery yesterday for his neutering and tooth extraction. He seems to be doing well. He ate when he got home and also this morning, so things are looking good at least there. He is spending a lot of time under the bed right now. He sat on my lap a little bit, but I gave him his pain medicine and he hates that. He is starting to associate me with that probably. I'm hoping he'll forgive me. I will go in and sit with him tonight after work. Maybe all evening and read a book or watch a movie. That works for me since I have a sore throat. The odd thing was that he was dragging his butt along the bed this morning - like cats do sometimes if they have poop stuck in their butts or fur. The vet called this morning and I told the technician that, but she said it is fine - that it probably just feels weird in the area. He had four teeth extracted. Days 6-8

Well, it has been a week since we've had Buckbeak. He is still timid of us, but has been mewling pathetically to be either out of his room or near the other cats.  Buckbeak escaped Friday evening when I left the door to his room open, and we couldn't get him back into his room. Whoops!  Steven and I have decided that he's a socially awkward cat. He doesn't have normal cat behavior. He is so interested in meeting and making friends that he doesn't seem to notice the body language of the other cats. Even when the other cats hissed or growled at him, he kept slowly inching toward them. I thought Jabez was going to lose it on Buckbeak, so I touched his (Jabez's) back and he yelled at me to not touch him. Then he seemed even more violent and was only about 2 fee away from Buckbeak.
